Why Hubbard's Baking Company?
We really can't answer this without
saying that we leased the upstairs restaurant portion of the old Hubbard's hardware store building, and asked
permission to use the "Hubbard's" name for the bakery part of our new endeavor.
It made sense, and we love the history of it.
It's also one of the largest commercial kitchens in the Rogue Valley, offering
lots of possibilities.
Actually, we have our own ties to the Hubbard name, although no relationship to the
Medford Hubbard's. Our great (or great great) Aunt married a Hubbard, and our
brother (uncle) was named after her brother-in-law, Modie Hubbard, who was killed in the
Philippines during WWII. Our brother (uncle) Mody** passed away while we were
building this venue. (We are a two generation family operation, with the third generation up and coming.)
Where did we get those delicious recipes?
Hubbard’s Baking Company
purchased the Sixes River Peddler, a company that specialized in gourmet treats.
The Sixes River Peddler was the brainstorm of three ladies, each bringing an
important skill set to the table. Most importantly, a retired home-economics teacher
brought her amazing skills as a baker to the business. After several years the ladies retired (again) and
sold the business. It operated for awhile longer in Port Orford before it
eventually closed. Hubbard's Baking Company now owns all the rights to the
recipes and we started selling the cookies and our fruit and nut mixes at Oxygen in time for Christmas 2007.
You've been here all this time?
Yes, but we think the delivery
guys ate all the cookies. Unfortunately, the economy put a damper on spending for the likes of gourmet
cookies and treats, so availability was limited to Oxygen and our online space.
Occasionally fate plays a role in giving a business a real boost. Last fall two business owners were seated next to each other in
McKee's Pub at Bandon Dunes, and began to talk.
The door was opened and our cookies finally hit the street.
Hubbard's Baking Company -- In the News!
We were delighted when Buffy Pollock, a freelance writer, contacted us about our cookies. She attended an event that featured our cookies and was sold on the tasty treats.
